Let’s party!

Hi everyone!

This month I thought I would explain what happens at a Baker Be kids cookery party. Here goes!

Let’s start with a theme

You can choose from one of my themes on my website or I can design a bespoke party just for you. Each theme offers a range of activities so you can choose what suits your child. A party will normally include 4 different activities. All activities are designed to suit the ages of the children. I can also incorporate arty crafty activities and party games into a party.

Here is an example of the activities we did at a recent Fairy themed party:

  •  –    Make, bake and decorate shortbread fairy wands
  •  –    Decorate 2 cupcakes with a fairy theme using coloured  buttercreams, sprinkles galore, sugar paper butterflies and princesses…More is definitely less!!
  •  –     Make strawberry and marshmallow toadstools
  •  –     Design your own fairy themed tag using stickers and stampers

Location and facilities

Parties usually take place in your home. However, if you prefer to book a venue then I am more than happy to come there. I generally need use of a fridge, hob and oven. I also need some space to lay out the resources for each activity. The children usually stand around a table although little ones are sometimes happier perched on chairs. I can provide aprons but children are welcome to wear their own so please include on your invitations. I provide all the equipment, ingredients and resources needed for the party.

On the run up to the party I ask that you confirm numbers and whether the children attending have any food allergies or intolerances as this can effect the type of activities undertaken. Once you have confirmed which activities you would like, I shop for and order all ingredients and resources needed and organise all the equipment I will need for each activity. If cupcakes/biscuits etc are required to be pre-made then I will make these on the day of the party or the day before to ensure that they are lovely and fresh.

On the day

I will arrive at the party location approximately 3/4 hour before the party is due to start. This gives me time to meet you and your child, set up all the activities and prepare items eg melt chocolate. As the children arrive I introduce myself, get to know their names and help the children with their aprons. Once everyone is ready and hands are washed then it’s party time! Activities last for approximately 1 1/2 hours depending on how quickly the children undertake them and how much licking of fingers takes place! (very much encouraged!).

Once the activities are complete some clients choose to have a party tea. This then gives me time to bag and tag the items the children have made so that they can take them home. This makes a perfect ‘party bag’ and saves on making your own. I will ensure all the bags and creations are ready to take home by the end of the party. I use ‘cellophane’ bags  which show off the creations and tags and ribbons are themed.

The clear up!

I clear away all used equipment into my storage bags and take these away to wash at home. I wipe down the table and all surfaces used and sweep/hoover the floor so that your house is left as I found it. I will then depart, leaving you in peace to enjoy the rest of your day with your birthday boy or girl.

It is absolutely your choice as to whether you allow me to take photos of the party. I use them to promote my business and they only appear on my business twitter and facebook accounts and website. Names and locations are never used. I completely understand if you or one of the parents/carers of a child attending would rather I didn’t take photos. I ask that all parents/carers involved are asked.

So that’s what to expect from one of my cookery parties. I love doing parties as I meet lots of great children and we get really creative. It is wonderful to see how imaginative children are. I have had super feedback from my parties and am always striving to improve them.

Here is what one happy client had to say:

“My daughter had a Baker Be Fairy party for her 6th birthday with seven of her friends. Be was fantastic. She engaged all the children from start to finish. The children created some fantastic treats and were really empowered being allowed to take complete control of their creations. I would thoroughly recommend Be and will definitely book again. She even cleaned up all the mess after!”

Until next month and lets hope the weather sorts itself out!
